The Faculty of Physical Education at Alexandria University organized a dialogue session entitled:
"An Egyptian sports renaissance"
Headed by Professor Dr. Asaad Al-Kiki, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education, Abu Qir
The meeting discussed many important topics related to Egyptian sports, most notably professionalism, sports investment, and sports media
Dr. Asaad Al-Kiki, Dean of the College, stressed the importance of having organized legislation and rules to regulate professionalism in football and in sports in general, in addition to preparing the infrastructure for sports professionalism in Egypt, because this will enhance sports investment opportunities.
Journalist Tariq Ismail said that we have not yet reached the ideal model of professionalism, pointing out the necessity of transforming sports into a real industry through institutions that generate income for sports clubs.
While Dr. Omar Al-Ghunaimi, Vice President of Smouha Club, discussed the problems of professionalism in Egypt and the obstacles facing the clubs, pointing to enhancing ways to invest in sports in general and football in particular.
Representative Tariq Al-Sayed, a member of the House of Representatives and former president of the Olympic Club, pointed out the importance of developing the professional system, developing the clubs’ resources, and actually starting serious investments in Egyptian sports.
For his part, Dr. Mohab Abdel Razek, the college’s dean for community service and environmental development, stressed the necessity of establishing a complete sports laboratory to measure the abilities of professional players.
The meeting was attended by Captain Tariq Al-Sabbagh, former basketball star at Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club, Captain Mohamed Nour, football star at Al-Ittihad Club of Alexandria, journalist Hassan Rady, journalist Ahmed Bassiouni at the Middle East News Agency, and journalist writer Muhammad Ali.
